Whether you want to attend classes full-time
in Prescott, complete an undergraduate degree from your home community,
or earn a graduate degree, you can prepare for teacher certification
through our program.
Teacher Education is Prescott
College's most popular area of study. Each year, approximately 100
students obtain Arizona state certification through our state approved
teacher education programs. The teacher education program is approved
by the Arizona Department of Education.
Which program is for you?
Students who have already earned an undergraduate degree
can complete a post-baccalaureate program in Elementary Education, Secondary Education,
or Special Education
through the Adult Degree Program
and apply for teacher certification through their state's department
of education. Students can also pursue a master's degree in education
through the Master of Arts Program.
A "fast track" option allows students to complete requirements
for certification while pursuing the graduate degree. Students in
these programs remain in their home communities and do their coursework
through independent study. Both programs have limited residency
requirements.
Students who not yet earned
an undergraduate degree can complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Elementary Education, or Special Education through either our Resident
Degree Program (RDP) or our Adult Degree
Program (ADP) . (In the Resident Degree Program, students live and
study in Prescott, while the Adult Degree Program allows them to
complete their degree from their home communities, while working
and maintaining a family life.)
In either program (RDP or ADP), degree-seeking students interested in Secondary Education
pursue a teaching competence (major) in a subject area and complete their
Secondary Education coursework requirements as a breadth (minor). Students
in the Resident Degree Program benefit greatly from our partnership with
Skyview School. Our students gain invaluable hands-on experience by working
directly with Skyview School students and teachers. This partnership provides
excellent training for future teachers from the start of their program.

Center for Indian Bilingual Teacher Education
The Center for Indian Bilingual Teacher Education (CIBTE)
is an alternative teacher education program that was established
to place certified Native American teachers in schools on their
reservations or in their home communities. CIBTE provides Native
American students an opportunity to complete a Bachelor of Arts
degree and earn the Arizona teaching credential in either Elementary,
Secondary, or Special Education.
