Meet the financial aid staff.

Applying for Financial Aid

All students seeking financial assistance are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can submit the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or you may request a paper application at your public library, from your high school guidance counselor or the Prescott College Financial Aid Office.  We recommend students file on line if at all possible.  When filling out your FAFSA you will need enter Prescott College's Federal Code:  013659.

The FAFSA is a FREE application designed by the Department of Education to be easily completed by parents and students.  The FAFSA will give you simple step-by-step instructions and should take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete.  The Financial Aid Staff at Prescott College warns of websites or individuals who charge a fee for submitting a FAFSA.  If you require assistance filling out the FAFSA, please contact our staff or the Dept. of Ed help line at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243).

The entire financial aid process takes time, therefore we recommend students file their FAFSA as early as possible, and in no case later than 10 weeks prior to a planned enrollment in order for your funding to be in place by your tuition due date.  While we will still process and award late applications, students should make other financial arrangements until their application can be processed.   Many types of funds are limited and are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis--it is to your benefit to apply early.

FAFSA Link

All students must file a FAFSA every year. The financial aid award year begins the first of July each year and runs through June 30. New applications are available every January 1. Applying early is to the student's advantage!

Generally, students who need full tuition assistance meet their costs with a combination of grants, scholarships, and loans. We strongly encourage students to seek private scholarships. First, check with your employer for tuition reimbursement benefits. Next, look for local, regional and national organizations in your education/career field. Also check with hometown community organizations or religious affiliations. Search the Internet; try some of the web sites listed below.  Do avoid scholarship scams that charge fees for "guaranteed" results.  Finally, visit the reference section your local library or nearest community college library.

Prescott College Grant

A partial tuition waiver granted to students with exceptional need. Limited fund.

Federal Pell Grant

A federal grant that need not be repaid. Available only to those pursuing their first undergraduate degree; not available for students pursuing only teaching certifications; need-based.

Federal Supplemental Grant (SEOG)
A federal grant for students with exceptional need. Limited fund; must be Federal Pell Grant-eligible.

Federal Stafford Loan
A loan regulated by the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program.  Funds come from, and are repaid to, a lender that participates in the program. After you graduate, leave school, or drop below half-time enrollment, you will have a six-month "grace period" before you begin repayment.  The interest rate is variable (adjusted annually on July 1st) but does not exceed 8.25 percent.   If you are eligible for a subsidized loan, the government will pay (subsidize) the interest on your loan while you are enrolled at least half-time, for the first six months after you leave school, and when you qualify to have your payments deferred.  A subsidized loan is awarded on the basis of financial need as demonstrated by the FAFSA results.  If your loan is unsubsidized, you are responsible for the interest from the time the loan is disbursed until it is paid in full. You can choose to pay the interest or allow it to accrue (accumulate) and be capitalized (that is, added to the principal amount of your loan). Capitalizing the interest will increase the amount you have to repay.  Both subsidized and unsubsidized Stafford Loans offer several repayment options.

Federal Parent Loan (PLUS)
Similar to the Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, this bank loan is available to parents of dependent students only. Low interest; non-need-based.

Federal Perkins Loan
A low interest loan repaid to Prescott College. Very limited fund; need-based.

Veterans' Benefits

Contact the Prescott College VA Coordinator in the Financial Aid Office for information and application materials.

Prescott College Student Employment
Our version of "work-study," student employment is available at locations both on and off campus.  To be eligible, you need to have submitted a current FAFSA.
