Partnerships for Student Achievement

Partnerships for Student Achievement is an education-based program serving K-12 schools in Washington County Oregon. AmeriCorps members serve for 11 months helping students achieve academically through tutoring and mentoring, providing extended school day activities, generating volunteers, and providing outreach to parents. As an education program, PSA is an outstanding opportunity for your recent graduates to get practical experience in an education setting. This program is ideal for students who are undecided about their pursuit of education as a career or would like to have practical experience and professional development before continuing on to graduate school.

Positions begin in August 2008 for the 2008-2009 school year.

Green Meadows Outdoor School

Naturalist-Intern

 

Qualifications:

  • BA or BS with some coursework in the natural sciences.
  • Experience working with children a plus, since that’s what we do!
  • Ability to play guitar and/or lead singing.
  • Valid driver’s license & proof of car insurance.
  • Current TB test, Health and vigor to support extensive and sustained outdoor activity- it’s an outdoor school!
  • Must pass Department of Justice fingerprinting and background check.

Intern-Naturalist Overview: Our internship model is designed to accommodate the rich and diverse skills and experiences that each staff member brings, making ones experience at Green Meadows unique to each individual. The goal is for each intern-naturalist to gain expertise and perspective through their own practice, reflection, and observation, while also being mentored by our permanent naturalist and principal. New staff arrives in late August to get acquainted with the program, logistics, and area, and also to begin learning our teaching style and philosophy through observation and training. By October they are generally teaching their own group of 12-16 students. Some typical fall classes are Geology, Giant Sequoia Ecology, Wildlife Ecology, Miwok Material Culture, Astronomy and many more. After observing naturalist, gaining experience in teaching the curriculum, and demonstrating aptitude, our interns begin to in-service district teachers, training them to teach our classes on the trail. As snow arrives we introduce new curriculum as well as the ever-popular snow plow operating in-service! By June, after a year of mentoring and focused professional development in our always evolving program, you’ll be ready for graduation. Interns have also taken initiative to complete amazing projects such as solar water systems, interpretive displays, and developing weather curriculum that contribute to the long-term goals of the program and directly affect the student’s experience.

Salary: $8.00. Overtime paid over 8 hours, generally we work about 150-160 days per school year. Housing full-time through the school year, all utilities paid except long distance phone. You get your own room in a real house with other real staff. Meals are provided during program days- and our food is pretty great too!

The Farm Internship

A residential work-study program at Sunrise Ranch

2008 marks an important year, the farm managers hope to convert as much of the farm as possible to solar power. The internship program will teach two processes:

  • The first will make space for interns to connect with the internal renewable energy source that is our inherent nature, and from which sustainable practices emerge.
  • The second process will teach methods and systems of sustainable farming.

As a Farm Intern you will have opportunity to continue developing individual sense of purpose, and spiritual expression and to reflect on your leadership and teamwork skills. Working at the farm will afford you the opportunity to learn about sustainable agriculture and its wide reaching impact on civilization, health, and ecosystems through hands-on work in the farm and garden and through class room sessions.

Program participants have the opportunity to be a visiting member of the Sunrise Ranch community, and to engage in the activities here. They find themselves surrounded by a community of love that supports vital spiritual change.

As a Farm Intern you will assist in:

  • Ethical raising of animals
  • Helping steward the gardening cycle, from planting to harvesting and delivering produce to our community kitchen.
  • Rehabilitating and maintaining buildings.
  • You will also have a project you vision and bring to fruition.

The Farm Intern position reports to the Farm Managers. It is an incredible opportunity to work with a team of people committed to environmental sustainability, community-building, and personal/social transformation.

Program Requirements:

  • Between March and November 2008, participation in a minimum of 3 month increments.
  • Ability and willingness to do physical work for 34 hours a week.
  • Desire to work with others creatively and respectfully in a community setting.
  • Interest in transforming current world trends through practical spirituality.

Participants Will Receive: (In exchange for the labor provided)

  • Monthly Stipend
    • Farm interns will receive $125 per month.
    • Increases to stipend may be available upon review after 3 months.

  • Mostly natural/organic meals
  • Transformation Groups
    • Share in a weekly forum to accelerate individual and collective transformation. The magic of a Transformation Group lies in its simple but powerful format, which establishes and sustains a strong culture of transformation based in the spirit of love.
    • Individuals share personal victories and growing edges, all with the understanding that we are the authors of our experience.
  • Study Groups
    • Study the spiritual principles that govern our life
    • Methodology and practice of sustainable agriculture
  • Weekly Individual Attunements
    • Attunement is an experience of deep stillness, vibrational healing and spiritual transformation

Education Through Adventure Leadership Camp is an innovative outdoor base Adventure camp program working toward providing adolescent treatment that combines experiential education and adventure therapy. Our students are 7-17 years of age, experiencing emotional and behavioral problems.

Education Through Adventure will provide trainings and certifications to help professionals gain the skills needed to be an Assistant Instructor. The internship is a three month intensive program that teaches professionals the Education Through Adventure philosophies, the technical skills and the interpersonal skills needed to become a solid instructor. A stipend with room and board will be provided. Trainings and programs will occur at The Education Through Adventure Leadership Camp. Interns need to have a passion for both the outdoors and for making a difference in the lives of youth.

SOS Internship

Program Support Intern Description

Each year SOS Outreach hires three interns to support its Colorado programs staff.  These positions are designed for those seeking to gain experience in the field of nonprofit management and administration.  Interns work approximately 30 hours per week from November through March with SOS staff to create and implement all programming. 

SOS Outreach was founded in 1993 in Colorado’s Vail Valley.  As a not-for-profit organization, we build character and self-esteem in youth through snow sports and the SOS curriculum.

Our programs offer snow boarding and skiing programs and the structure of the SOS curriculum, which include consistent adult mentors, community service opportunities, and life skill workshops.  Through these opportunities, and the adult mentor relationships that are central to our programs, SOS accomplishes its mission of character building in underprivileged youth to enhance their decision-making for healthy and successful life experiences.

Available Positions and Location: 3 total (1 in each geographical area)

  • Denver/Front Range, CO

Description: The position will be split between on hill and office responsibilities.

On hill days will consist of coordinating youth groups from various youth agencies throughout Colorado.  Your responsibilities may include:

  • Provide resources for youth groups;
  • Coordinate details with host resorts;
  • Provide resorts with agency information;
  • Collect social and demographic data from participants;

Office hours will be spent coordinating all program logistics:

  • Hire and train of seasonal staff;
  • Student registration;
  • Maintain clothing and hard goods inventory;
  • Entry of program data into the online database;
  • Assistance with marketing and special events

Qualifications: Ideal interns must present themselves professionally, have a strong work ethic and demonstrate excellent communication and motivational skills.  Preference is given to applicants with experience working with disadvantaged youth and ski or snow board experience.  Fluency in Spanish is a plus. 

Compensation:

  • Stipend of $100 per week;
  • Ski pass and access to equipment discounts;
