The Faculty Webinar Series Will Launch February 17th at 4:00 PM With “Organizing Opportunities for the Xicanada in the 21st Century” Featuring Ernesto Todd Mireles, MSW, Ph.D.
Prescott College is excited to introduce a new Meet the Faculty webinar series designed to feature the work, research, and praxis of the Prescott College faculty for the benefit of the campus community and to engage external audiences of prospective students, colleagues and collaborators. Each episode will be 45-50 Minutes in length followed by a Q&A.
The Series will kick off tomorrow, Wednesday, February 17th, at 4:00 PM MST with Episode 1: “Organizing Opportunities for the Xicanada in the 21st Century” presented by Ernesto Todd Mireles, MSW, Ph.D., Prescott College Faculty and Coordinator of the Frantz Fanon Community Strategy Center.
Dr. Mireles will discuss how pockets of the Xicano people and Xicano political movement are responding to the current crises of the 21st century. This past year and a half through the COVID-19 pandemic, four years of Donald Trump and the 2020 Presidential Election, a number of grassroots Xicano organizations, working primarily through online services to connect and educate Xicano movement activities across the country, are building a North American pan indigenous front for organizing that is only now being fully comprehended. Using the Japanese idea of the Keiretsu as a model, coupled with online meeting capability, expands and cements the Xicano ability to build national and international networks exploding our current local community-centric Xicano organizing model and potentially moving the Xicanada into a new phase of low-intensity movement building.
The Series will be moderated by Cirien Saadeh, PhD., journalist, educator, community organizer, and Associate Faculty in Prescott College’s online SJCO program, who works at the intersections of journalism, social movements, experiential education, and sustainability.
