STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Jaco Schiller ’23

“Art in Education: Cultivating Compassion and Autonomy through Creativity”

Jaco Schiller created a documentary film project which aims to advocate for arts at Prescott College and also more broadly in liberal arts education throughout the world. Over the past two years, Jaco has conducted thirty-two informal interviews with students and faculty focused on their experience of arts at Prescott College and in their lives. These perspectives have been documented through community journalism and autoethnographic research, which are methods of research that can critically analyze systems of power in how we communicate data. Jaco also consolidated community-documented student performances and coursework from art classes and independent studies. Intending to serve as a call to action, this film highlights the community’s voices and needs regarding the arts curriculum at Prescott College and with arts in education throughout the world.
