A Message of Solidarity from President Morris

Dear Prescott College Community,

Today we enter a new era which, for many among us, evokes feelings of fear and uncertainty. The role of higher education is to educate; to be a safe space for students, faculty, and staff to come together as a community, to ask questions, to engage, to learn, and to be vulnerable. At Prescott College, we will continue to serve our community through the lens of diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging, as we have done for nearly 60 years. As practitioners of social justice, environmental awareness, climate advocacy and mental health, we stand in solidarity with one another, as educators, against hate and injustice. Let us continue our commitment as changemakers to move forward as part of the solution.

As a community, we must care for one another. We must look out for those whose existence is being threatened. Our role is to educate students to be advocates who are not afraid to face injustices. Now, more than ever we resolve to stand together in the face of adversity. Higher education, and Prescott College in particular, will be challenged under this new administration. The threat to our values is real.  We will remain steadfast in our protection of all our students, faculty, and staff regardless of their national origin or citizenship. We will protest any attempts to dismantle diversity, equity, and inclusion. We will defend academic freedom and our value of justice as central to our work. However we feel about the outcome of this election, we will support and nurture one another. To quote our mission statement, together we create interdisciplinary, experiential, and diverse learning environments that inspire future leaders to create a healthy, just, and sustainable world.
