Edward Boyer

Ed Boyer is Director of Environmental Studies and Sustainability Programs at Prescott College where he has been a member of the faculty since 1992. Prior to that he was on the faculty at Snow College (Utah), Arizona Western College, Yavapai College, Pima Community College, and the International Institute of Applied Physiology. For the majority of his time at Prescott Dr. Boyer was the founding director of the Prescott College Kino Bay Center, Sonora, Mexico on the Gulf of California, developing a marine studies curriculum, teaching marine biology, and building programs and infrastructure. He has taught everything from Anatomy to Zoology with an emphasis on field marine biology courses, Oceanography, Introductory biology, Human Anatomy, and Ecology/Natural History. One of his passions is field training and having a positive impact on student success; “I most enjoy working one-on-one with students to help them discover their interests and develop useful academic skills, especially in field settings.

His research interests include complexity and stability of ecological communities, factors that impact species diversity; marine mammals (Gulf of California Vaquita), Intertidal Ecology, Invertebrate Zoology. Dr. Boyer has worked at field stations in Alaska, the American Southwest, Pacific and Atlantic U.S. Coasts, Mexico, He has been involved with the Organization of Biological Field Stations, the National Science Foundation, advocating for the funding of field study. He is currently Director of the Walnut Creek Center for Education and Research in Arizona.

Ed’s other interests include reading, history, travel, music/guitar, snorkeling, and surfing.
