What will this program look like?

Students gain practical skills in liberation-based theoretical frameworks and community organizing methodologies, as they learn to devise strategic, intentional, and specific strategies aimed at addressing the injustices facing communities of color, immigrant communities, Indigenous communities, incarcerated communities, Queer and Trans communities, and more. In this program, students from many different communities and backgrounds will work together to develop new and innovative solutions that address systemic oppression as they seek to build to justice and organize communities – through movements for environmental, socio-economic, political, and racial justice. Students will not be learning to help communities, they will be learning to understand and own their own power as they seek to organize and teach others to move towards more just and resilient communities. Studies include: strategic organization praxis, leadership and collaboration, systems of oppression and community-based education.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
Sunny Brown
“My passion for social justice and community organizing stems from a deep belief in the importance of equity and the recognition of the disparities that exist in society. Everyday I am motivated by the fact that there are numerous underserved youth and families who are struggling to thrive in a country that claims to be the wealthiest in the world. I was driven to pursue a master’s degree that will provide me with the necessary knowledge and skills to identify issues, secure funding, and address these challenges through policy changes. Ultimately, my goal is to contribute to creating a better world where everyone has equal opportunities and access to resources.
