Fernando is a mixed-methodologist, evaluator, and social scientist with expertise in supporting refugees and asylum seekers, particularly survivors of torture and those in complex humanitarian emergencies. Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, Fernando researches trauma, migration, and resilience, focusing on how displaced populations recover and how systems can better meet their needs.

In addition to research, Fernando is trained as a somatic psychotherapist and trauma-sensitive yoga instructor, bringing a holistic approach to working with trauma survivors. This training integrates body-centered healing practices with trauma recovery, supporting individuals in restoring safety, stability, and self-agency. As an ordained minister, Fernando is also involved in interfaith and interspiritual research, exploring the role of spirituality in the healing process for displaced persons.

With a deep commitment to both research and practice, Fernando develops trauma-informed interventions, evaluation frameworks, and policy recommendations that prioritize the voices and experiences of refugees. Their work bridges academic inquiry and compassionate care, aiming to foster resilience and dignity in the lives of displaced individuals.
