Overview
The education programs at Prescott College spend time cultivating the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for future teachers, educational leaders, experiential facilitators, and innovative thinkers in the field. Prescott College offers multiple avenues to help you reach your goals to become a teacher or administrator, inspiring students from all walks of life.
Degrees, Licensure & Certifications
Our bachelor’s degrees can be done on-campus or online, and can incorporate previous transfer credit.
If you’ve already obtained your bachelor’s degree and are exploring a career in teaching, the post-bacc certificates can be a streamlined way to get your license. This option is particularly beneficial to students who may have taken education coursework during their undergrad degree, as those courses may count toward licensure-required courses.
*See special notes below regarding how you can pursue this licensure while teaching full-time as a lead teacher through the Arizona Alternative Teaching License program.
Endorsements are attachments to teaching certificates and indicate areas of specialization.
If you’ve already obtained your bachelor’s degree and you have not previously taken coursework in education, the M.Ed. is likely your best option. The pathway is the same as that for the post-bacc certificate, but more rigorous. The M.Ed. also requires attendance at our annual education colloquium.
*See special notes below regarding how you can pursue this licensure while teaching full-time as a lead teacher through the Arizona Alternative Teaching License program.
Prescott College is proud to offer pathways for those looking to work in much-needed leadership or counseling roles in K-12 systems.
Interested in the field of education, but not looking to pursue a license? These degrees may be more up your alley:
Alternative Teaching Certificate Information
Prescott College partners with the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) to provide multiple pathways to licensure.
- Traditional Prep Program, in which you complete your licensure coursework then 12 weeks of student teaching prior to being hired as a salaried lead teacher.
- Alternative Teaching Certificate, which allows you to enter into a salaried teaching contract while simultaneously completing your licensure coursework. All of Prescott College’s post-bacc and teaching license M.Ed.s can be done in conjunction with the Alternative Teaching Certificate. Students must apply both to Prescott College and the ADE. You can see more information on the ADE website here.
State Licensure Information
All licensure programs at Prescott College lead to licensure in Arizona. Students who live outside of or plan to teach outside of Arizona are welcome to apply and enroll at PC, but must check with their home state’s department of education to determine requirements and process to have an Arizona license reciprocated to another state. See more information about state licensure here.
